Learning Classifiers From a Relational Database of Tutor Logs
نویسندگان
چکیده
A bottleneck in mining tutor data is mapping heterogeneous event streams to feature vectors with which to train and test classifiers. To bypass the labor-intensive process of feature engineering, AutoCord learns classifiers directly from a relational database of events logged by a tutor. It searches through a space of classifiers represented as database queries, using a small set of heuristic operators. We show how AutoCord learns a classifier to predict whether a child will finish reading a story in Project LISTEN’s Reading Tutor. We compare it to a previously reported classifier that uses hand-engineered features. AutoCord has the potential to learn classifiers with less effort and greater accuracy. ________________________________________________________________________

Relational Databases Query Optimization using Hybrid Evolutionary Algorithm
Optimizing the database queries is one of hard research problems. Exhaustive search techniques like dynamic programming is suitable for queries with a few relations, but by increasing the number of relations in query, much use of memory and processing is needed, and the use of these methods is not suitable, so we have to use random and evolutionary methods. The use of evolutionary methods, beca...
متن کاملThe Determination of When to Teach What in a Virtual Tutoring System for Relational Database Schema Normalization
As a virtual tutoring system, the ANT project involves a dynamic curriculum planning module that assists the virtual tutor to customize a series of tutoring sessions for a real life student. In a virtual tutoring environment, the interactions between a real life student and a virtual tutor tend to be subtle. These subtleties should be captured and modeled when a tutoring session is conducted. S...
متن کاملERM-Tutor an ER-to-Relational Mapping Tutor
Relational Databases are extremely commonplace in today’s society. Because of this the skill of designing such databases is often taught in university courses, where part of this skill involves being able to map from a conceptual schema to relational database tables. This is a mapping algorithm that maps from the Entity Relationship conceptual schema to relational database tables, and applying ...
متن کاملCombining heterogeneous classifiers for relational databases
Most enterprise data is distributed in multiple relational databases with expert-designed schema. Using traditional single-table machine learning techniques over such data not only incur a computational penalty for converting to a flat form (mega-join), even the human-specified semantic information present in the relations is lost. In this paper, we present a practical, twophase hierarchical me...
متن کاملSupporting Self-Explanation in a Data Normalization Tutor
Self-explanation is one of the most effective learning strategies, resulting in deep knowledge. In this paper, we discuss how self-explanation is scaffolded in NORMIT, a data normalization tutor. Data normalization is the process of refining a relational database schema in order to ensure that all relations are of high quality. We present the system first, and then discuss how it supports self-...
